Tiny Desk Live performance : NPR

Few artists can fully dismantle your coronary heart, fill it with marvel and awe on the miracle of life, and put it again collectively fairly like Madi Diaz. Her songs give house to ponder life’s largest questions: How did we get right here? What is the goal of something? Does God exist? And, as you will see on this three-hanky Tiny Desk, she will do all of it with simply her voice and a guitar.

The opening two cuts from this efficiency, “Really feel One thing” and “Heavy Steel,” are each standouts from Diaz’s most up-to-date album, Deadly Optimist. Like a lot of her work, they’re songs about seekers navigating the messy human expertise — the methods we overly romanticize younger love, the passing of time, and the inevitability of rising older and turning into your mother and father.

Then she introduced a few of us within the workplace to tears. In “God Individual,” from 2024’s Bizarre Religion, she considers the chance that God truly does exist, and could be present in life’s smallest particulars: seeing a storm billow on the horizon, sitting by a hearth with pals or staring out on the ocean. However Diaz saves her most weak second for the top, closing with “Consider Me,” a fiery kiss-off — and a determined plea — to a dishonest ex.
