JERUSALEM — Israel’s president on Tuesday invited Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and authorities prosecutors to his official residence in hopes of brokering a settlement to finish an ongoing corruption case in opposition to the Israeli chief.
President Isaac Herzog’s workplace issued the invitation days after saying that he wouldn’t determine on Netanyahu’s request for a pardon and as an alternative urge the perimeters to achieve a settlement.

The invitation, signed by Herzog’s authorized adviser, stated the president believes that efforts to achieve a settlement “have to be exhausted first” earlier than he can think about the pardon request. It stated it aimed for discussions to happen “with an open coronary heart and honest, good intention” and requested for a response by Sunday.
Netanyahu final November requested Herzog to cancel his trial, saying that dropping the costs would assist unify the nation. U.S. President Donald Trump has made a number of appeals to Herzog to finish the trial.
Netanyahu is charged with breach of belief, fraud and accepting bribes in three separate circumstances accusing him of exchanging favors with rich associates. He denies all expenses.
The trial has dragged on for six years in a case that has bitterly divided the Israeli public. Netanyahu and his supporters declare he’s the sufferer of a politically motivated witch hunt by the media, police and prosecutors.
