Pharrell Williams Cancels Musical Biopic Directed by Michel Gondry


Pharrell Williams has canceled a forthcoming film musical biopic about his life, Selection reviews. Golden, directed by Michel Gondry and initially set for launch on Could 5, will not see launch as a result of “there wasn’t a path ahead to inform the model of this story that we initially envisioned,” based on a joint press assertion from Williams and Gondry. “We recognize all of the arduous work of the gifted solid and crew. Whereas we’re disenchanted we are able to’t ship this movie, we’ve unbelievable companions at Common and can collaborate in a unique capability once more quickly.”

A coming-of-age story centered on Williams’ upbringing in Virginia Seaside within the Seventies, the musical was to be “a celebration of Black life, Black tradition, and most significantly, Black pleasure,” based on a 2024 interview with Williams.

Common Footage, the studio behind Golden, will reportedly take in roughly $20 million in prices spent on manufacturing. Final 12 months, Common’s sister movie distributor Focus Options launched Piece by Piece, a quasi-documentary about Pharrell Williams that used Lego minifigures to inform the story of the musician’s life.
